Madisonville Police Officer Arrested for Breach of Security

A Madisonville Police Officer -- recently accused of hacking into a department computer -- has turned himself in for breach of security; a state jail felony.

Holding criminals accountable for their actions is a standard that's always upheld at the Madisonville Police Department -- even if it involves -- one of their own.

The tables were turned Friday after eight-year Madisonville Police veteran David Aaron Sims turned himself in to a Texas Ranger for the crime he's accused of committing in July.

The 46-year old peace officer allegedly hacked into a Madisonville Police sergeant's desktop computer where he allegedly removed confidential electronic files from the system. While the department cannot comment on the open investigation -- after learning of the alleged crime, the Madisonville Police Chief tells News 3 aTexas Ranger was called in to assist.

Sims has since been terminated pending the outcome of the investigation.

We spoke to Texas Ranger Steve Jeter who tells News 3 Sims was indicted Thursday; he then turned himself in Friday. He was booked inside the Madison County Jail on $1,500 bond. Furthermore, Jeter says the investigation has been turned over to the Madison County District Attorney's Office.
