Aljazeera Official News Website Hacked By Al Rashedon

AL-JAZEERA'S website was hacked overnight apparently by Syrian government loyalists accusing the news service of spreading lies.

Hackers replaced the home page of al-Jazeera's Arabic site with a statement that said the cyberattack was a protest against its coverage of the Syrian conflict.

"This is in response to your position against Syria (people and government) and for special support of militant terrorism," read a statement posted in Arabic, underneath a red stamp reading "hack" in English.

In the background was a scene from al-Jazeera's English website.

Al-Jazeera's TV broadcasts in Arabic and English were not affected.

In a statement, the channel said that some of its external servers were compromised.

While the company resolved the disruptions, it said, "some users may continue to experience issues for a while longer".

The Qatar-based channel has extensively covered the 17-month-long Syrian conflict.

Al-Jazeera has been an influential factor in covering "Arab Spring" uprisings across the region.

Qatar is a harsh critic of the Syrian regime and a leading backer of the rebels.

It is the second Syria-related hacking incident on a news organisation in the past month after Reuters was hacked in August with false reports from Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says more than 26,000 people have been killed in Syria since the revolt began in March last year - more than two-thirds of them civilians.

MWSS website hacked

MANILA, Philippines - Several hacker groups on Sunday, September 2, 2012, hacked the official website of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewage System (MWSS).

The groups identified themselves as Anonymous #OccupyPhilippines, Anonymous Butuan, PrivateX, #pR.is0n3r. Lo0p th3 Lo0p, l4stl00k, Anonymous Manila, and All Pinoy Hackers.

As of 2:57 pm on Sunday, the MWSS website contained a spinning logo of "Anonymous Philippines," with a link below that instructs visitors to "click for the reason."

The link leads to a YouTube video posted by user "AnonymousButuan" on August 31, 2012.

In the video, the group accused the MWSS, Maynilad Water Services Inc., and Manila Water Co. of cheating customers into paying for two cancelled projects. The group did not specific the projects that they were referring to. The group also alleged that the MWSS has been giving "excessive benefits" to its board members.

"We are fighting for the truth and free speech. People should not fear the government. The government should fear their people," the video said.

"We are anonymous, we are legion, we do not forgive, we do not forget, United as one, divided by none, the corrupt fear us, the honest support us, the heroic joins us, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, it's too late to expect us!"

Changes in the MWSS

The MWSS has been on the spotlight recently, after they eliminated the illegal allowances of its employees.

Back in August, it was revealed that the company's drivers had been receiving up to P97,000 a month mainly in the form of bonuses.

"Illegal" bonuses included a birthday and State of the Nation Address bonus.

In an interview on Rappler's #TalkThursday, MWSS Chairman Ramon Alkipala dismissed accusations that the allowances of the agency's board members were "excessive." According to him, it is only a smear campaign in reaction to the reforms instituted by the board, including the slashing of employee benefits.

We all know about what torture and tragedies await the prisoners at Guantanamo, and it was about time someone stepped forward for the cause. 

Team Hybrid put a strong message on the websites (including explicit language that shall be censored here) saying that Guantanamo is not just a prison facility, but a hell hole where all sorts of human rights are broken. The team stated the fact that cameras or any sort of recording equipment is strictly prohibited inside Guantanamo Bay facilities, protesting for freedom of speech.

A Pakistani hacker name as "hcrack2" from "Sharp-cyber Group" hacked and deface 200 plus Indian sites including xooomhosting and BJPMP . According to hacker, this hack is also part of cyber attack in payback response of Indians hacking activities toward Pakistani cyber space.

The list of impacted sites was published on Pastebin yesterday, but at press time, most of them still weren’t restored.

 While these mass defacements may not seem to have devastating effects, many website owners complain that it takes quite an effort to fully recover after such a hack.

Cyber-Warrior / AKINCILAR Group has started an attack about the political tension between Turkey and Israel (Ahmet Davutoglu - Dr. Michael Ben-Ari), and they still keep attacking. Cyber-Warrior / AKINCILAR Group made a name for themselves by hacking thousands of websites that insults their country, religion and nation. The group is called as “Virtual Castle of Turkey”. Within the context of attack the website of  Dr. Michael Ben-Ari who attracted attention by saying “Turkey should be declared as enemy country”.

To show their protest in the virtual world Cyber-Warrior / AKINCILAR Group has also hacked the free hosting service called 020.com’s all the websites. After the attack the personal website and thousands of other Israel websites’ homepages changed with the same text.
