US Air Force is spending $10 million For Hacking

The US Air Force is spending $10 million on an effort to hack into opponents’ computer networks to “destroy, deny, degrade, disrupt, deceive, corrupt or usurp” their ability to use the Internet to their advantage.

The ability to hack into networks is part of a list of the military’s “Cyberspace Warfare Operations Capabilities” that it wishes to acquire, reports Wired.

Instead of giving the ability to conduct cyber strikes solely to the White House, the Air Force wants its Trojans and worms to be available to its own officials, including top personnel and operational commanders.

Last week, the Pentagon announced a new $110 million program to make cyber strikes a more routine effort in wartime military operations. “Plan X,” as the Pentagon named it, will officially begin on September 20, but Darpa has already invested $600,000 to cyber security firm Invincea to begin its research immediately.

In early 2007, the Pentagon declared that it “had no plans to shift its cyber warfare focus from a defensive mindset to an offensive one.” But later that year, the Air Force began developing offensive cyber attack strategies, which have materialized into budgeted plans this year.

Other branches of the military are also discussing hacking as a war strategy.

“I can tell you that as a commander in Afghanistan in the year 2010, I was able to use my cyber operations against my adversary with great impact,” said Lt. Gen. Richard Mills at a technology conference last week. The lieutenant general also discussed a Marine company that will be stationed at the National Security Agency to “increase the availability of intelligence analysts, intelligence collectors and offensive cyber operations … so that forward deployed commander in the heat of combat has full access to the cyber domain.”

Invincea, the company in charge of putting together the cyber security project, was contracted one month after it contacted the government with its proposal. The firm has worked with the government before, analyzing cyber attacks facing the US.

As malware becomes increasingly more common, the US has changed its cyber status from defensive to offensive.

RedHack Lashes Out at Anonymous Turkey (AnonsTurkey)

The members of the now-infamous RedHack collective are displeased with the fact that Anonymous Turkey (AnonsTurkey) is relying on the Anonymous name “for their personal interests.”

The hacktivists released a statement to ensure that everyone understands that they’re not against Anonymous, but they’re against the teenagers who run AnonsTurkey.

“Relationship between Redhack and Anonymous goes back to the time of 4chan in 2005. We continue to be in solidarity with active and true hackers within Anonymous and offer our help within our capabilities when it is required,” members of RedHack said.

RedHacks coordinated numerous Anonymous Turkey operations, but at one point some of the members of the latter group decided to take matters into their own hands.

“We always thought that they were young and might change positively. But then they were not happy about us being socialist and our revolutionary values were hard for them to accept,” they explained.

“According to them we should act within the norms of ‘official ideology’ and act around the chauvinism that was imposed on people and the brotherhood relations with the Kurdish people should have been cut off.”

The members of Anonymous Turkey who didn’t condone with RedHack’s views formed their own “Anonymous Turkey” (AnonsTurkey).

When the controversial hackers were appointed as terrorists by the Turkish government, this new collective revealed its support, but because of their “track record” RedHack turned down their offer.

Immediately after, AnonsTurkey announced that they no longer support RedHack and a feud began.

RedHack members conclude their statement by saying that their relations with AnonTurkey will not influence their relationship with Anonymous activists in any way.

On the other hand, it’s almost impossible for all hackers to get along with one another when the Anonymous name is free-for-all. A similar situation occurred when the protest against the Republican National Convention in Tampa was announced.

Hackers attack Australian spy agency website

Australia's national intelligence agency acknowledged Friday that its public website may have encountered problems after hackers said they had subjected it to a sustained campaign of cyber attacks.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organization "is aware that there may have been some technical issues with its public website," a spokesman for the organization said.

But the site "does not host any classified information and any disruption would not represent a risk to ASIO's business," the spokesman added, using the agency's abbreviated name.

The hackers, who appeared to have links to the loose collective Anonymous, said they had been launching attacks on the ASIO site and those of other Australian government agencies over the past few days, according to Twitter accounts under the names Anonymous Australia and OperationAustralia.

The ASIO site "has been down for some time now, And will be for the rest of the day!" OperationAustralia tweeted Friday morning, Sydney time. The site appeared to be functioning normally about seven hours later.

The OperationAustralia account, which uses the Twitter handle @Op_Australia and has about 400 followers, suggested the attacks were motivated by controversial proposals by the Australian authorities to have Internet users' web histories stored.

In recent years, Anonymous has been involved in some of the most high-profile cyberattacks on the Web -- hobbling the websites of governments and businesses, hacking into sites to reveal private data and, along the way, getting dubbed cyberterrorists by the authorities in the United States and elsewhere.

The network's motto is "We are Legion," and it describes itself as "a decentralized network of individuals focused on promoting access to information, free speech, and transparency."

Yourikan Pro-Israeli Hacker Claims 91 Iranian Websites Hacked

Pro-Israeli hacker Yourikan (you-r!-k@n) is claiming to have hacked and defaced as many as ninety-one Iranian websites.

In a message sent to Infosec Island editor Anthony M. Freed, Youri

Haines City's Government Site Hacked by Ay Yıldız Hack Team

The Turkish Hacker group called as Ay Yıldız have hacked into the official website of Haines City, Polk County, Florida. On Sunday, the site’s visitors were redirected to a Turki

sh gaming site.

According to NewsChief, the site was hacked about 10:30 p.m. -- and taken down as soon as the city's Information Technology staff was notified later Sunday night.

Haines City representatives said because the website is not hosted on city servers, IT staff could not determine how it was hacked. But he said no information on city servers were compromised.

"We took the website down," Evans said. "We know it's an important communication tool and we have been working on a reorganized website but this glitch set the plans in motion sooner."

The incident determined officials to ensure that the new site, about to be launched these days, would benefit from proper security measures.

“In the event that something happens in the future, we'll be prepared for it,” said Assistant City Manager, Jonathan Evans.

Gizmodo Twitter Account Hacked by Clan VV3

Clan VV3, a group of hackers who are expert in “jacking” Twitter and YouTube accounts, has managed to take over the profile of tech news website Gizmodo.

Apparently, it all started when the hackers compromised the iCloud account of Mat Honan, a former Gizmodo employee. According to Honan, that allowed them to take over his Google and Twitter accounts.

Since his Twitter account had been linked at some point to the one of Gizmodo, the members of Clan VV3 were able to gain access to that one as well and started publishing their own tweets.

Unfortunately for Honan, the hackers also wiped the data from his iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air, most of it being lost, probably for good.

“I still can’t get into Gmail. My phone and iPads are down (but are restoring). Apple tells me that the remote wipe is likely irrecoverable without serious forensics. Because I’m a jerk who doesn’t back up data, I’ve lost at more than a year’s worth of photos, emails, documents, and more. And, really, who knows what else,” he wrote in a blog post.

After everything was sorted out, Gizmodo regained access to the account and provided the 416,000 followers with a brief explanation as to what happened.

“To be clear, a former Gizmodo employee's Twitter account appears to have been hacked, and that is how those tweets appeared on,” read a post made by Gizmodo after the account had been recovered.

“Apologies to those who saw those tweets. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.”

As far as Clan VV3 is concerned, the list of Twitter accounts they’ve compromised in the past, according to their website, is impressive. It includes the accounts of Tami Roman (664,000 followers) Whitney Cummings (659,000 followers), Booker Huffman (300,000 followers) and many more.

Hacker also release a video of hack but that video is removed by YouTube.

Hackers Hit Reuters, Post Fake Blog on Syria

NEW YORK: Hackers took over the blogging platform of the Reuters news agency and posted “fabricated” stories said to include an interview with a Syrian rebel leader, the company said Friday.

“Reuters.com was a target of a hack on Friday,” said a statement from parent firm Thomson Reuters.

“Our blogging platform was compromised and fabricated blog posts were falsely attributed to several Reuters journalists.”

Among the fake postings was a purported interview with the head of the Free Syrian Army, who was quoted as saying that rebel forces were pulling back after clashes in the city of Aleppo.

Reuters said it did not carry out that interview, that the posting has been deleted and that the blogging platform was taken offline as it addresses the problem.

Syrian opposition fighters told a news conference Friday in Iraq they would not withdraw from Aleppo, the northern city which has been under attack by regime forces.

DDOS Attacks Against Telecom Systems Cost Less than 20$

Experts have found that distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks launched against telecommunication systems are advertised by cybercriminals for prices as low as $20 per day. DDOS attacks are usually used by cyber criminals for revenge, extortion, for ideological or political reasons, and even as a form of hiding financial crimes.

Inspired by the “phone bomb” attack launched by TriCk of Team Poison against the phone lines of UK’s counter-terrorism hotline back in April, experts from Arbor SERT have turned their attention to attacks that target traditional telecom systems.

They’ve found that cybercriminals are advertising “professional services” to anyone who’s willing to pay between $20 per day and $30 per hour to make sure that a certain phone is flooded with phone calls.

According to the researchers, the SIP flooding attacks, such as the ones utilized by TriCk against MI6, are not uncommon these days.

“Often, SIP flooding attacks take place because attackers are running brute-force password guessing scripts that overwhelm the processing capabilities of the SIP device, but we have also seen pure flooding attacks on SIP servers,” Curt Wilson of Arbor SERT explained.

“Once the attackers obtain credentials into a VoIP or other PBX system, that system can become a pawn in their money-making scheme to perform DoS, Vishing, or other types of attacks.”

The expert reveals that the VoIP and the PBX systems are usually easy to penetrate because the access credentials are weak, being easy to guess with a brute force attack.

An organization’s entire phone systems can be easily brought down if they’re connected to the Internet and the attacker manages to gain access to the controller, researchers explain.

As other experts highlighted on past occasions, the fact that such DDOS services are advertised indicates that large amounts of money are circulating in underground markets around these types of services.

This means that companies should start focusing their efforts towards protecting their phone systems, just as they would be normally doing with other parts of their network.

This is not surprising because these kind of attacks are now become common form both sides.Most of Cyber Security have to deal with this matter in serous way.
